TITLE
Recommendation to request the formation of a Community Development Impact Team for the Wardlow Road Corridor; and request a report on home-based business assistance.

DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach 2010 Strategic Plan established Business Growth and Workforce Development goals to retain, expand, and attract business by encouraging development centered on the City's strength. The strength of the 7'h
District can be found in our neighborhood commercial corridors. These corridors are lined with small to medium sized, mostly family-owned businesses. To assists businesses in these key commercial corridors, the 2010 Plan specifically
calls for the creation of Community Development Impact Teams (CDIT):
B 7.7 2 In under-served areasheighborhoods use Community Development Impact Teams combining multiple City bureaus to exert coordinated efforts to assist small businesses through newly established community centers.

A CDIT was extremely effective in targeting resources on the Santa Fe Corridor. Improvements on the corridor were the result of the efforts of city departments and the private sector working together to create business assistance programs, fagade improvement grants, code enforcement, and the
coordination of public safety, parks and recreation and public works programs. The 7'h District has an impressive number of home-based businesses. As stated in the Job and Business Strategy, the growth of small businesses, particularly home-based businesses, is, an important trend in the City. Assisting
our home-based businesses should be a priority for the economic development policies as the investment in this business is an investment in the community. I would like to request the formation of a Community Development Impact
Team to focus on the Wardlow Road Corridor and a report on the emerging trend of home-based businesses and what can be done to assist them.
