DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Sully Miller Contracting, Inc. (Sully Miller), for intersection modifications at Walnut Avenue and Alamitos Avenue.

The intersection modifications at Walnut Avenue and Alamitos Avenue are in need of rehabilitation. The work to be done consists of construction of a new four-way signalized intersection, which will include the realignment of Alamitos Avenue, removal of a diagonal portion of East 20th Street, widening of East 20th Street, and realignment of East Wesley Drive. A vicinity map showing the project location is attached.

This bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on February 11, 2016, and 3,917 potential bidders specializing in construction were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those notified, 81 downloaded the bid via the City’s electronic bid system. The bid documents were made available by the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and on the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which was sent to 22 local, minority and women-owned business groups.
