TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute all necessary documents with the County of Los Angeles to accept funding in the amount of $1,582,778, effective through August 30, 2008, to provide for bioterrorism preparedness and public health infrastructure development. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
Since 2002, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded the County of Los Angeles (County) funding for bioterrorism preparedness and public health infrastructure development to provide for response support to a bioterrorist threat or other public health emergency in Long Beach. This includes all-hazards preparedness and response (e.g., earthquakes, heat emergencies, infectious disease outbreaks, etc.), and pandemic influenza planning and response. The County has requested an amendment to this agreement to continue these services for an additional year.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lori A. Conway on September 4, 2007 and by Budget and Performance Management Bureau Manager David Wodynski on September 10, 2007.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on September 18, 2007, as the amendment covers the term effective August 31, 2007.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total amount of the amended agreement is $1,582,778. Funds will be appropriated in conjunction with the adoption of the FY 08 budget. No matching funds are required for this grant.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
