TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to accept an easement deed for street and sidewalk widening at 537 West Broadway.  (District 1)

DISCUSSION
It is the goal of the Department of Public Works to widen streets and sidewalks to the standards established in the City's General Plan.  When significant new development is proposed, the public rights-of-way adjacent to the site are reviewed for sufficiency to accommodate the new development.  For the construction of the George Deukmejian Courthouse located at 537 West Broadway, the dedication of additional right-of-way width is recommended to address an increase in vehicular traffic volume, sidewalk mobility concerns, and to satisfy bus stop and ADA requirements.  A map of the location is attached.

The State of California, acting by and through the Judicial Council of California, Administrative Office of the Courts, agreed to development conditions that include the above-described dedication.

In conformance with the California Environmental Quality Act, Mitigated Negative Declaration Number 2009051102 was issued for this project.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Vu on March 11, 2013 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on May 23, 2013.
