DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Griffith Company for the Phase II rehabilitation of access to taxiways E and F at the Long Beach Airport. The project limit is bound to the east by Runway 16R-34L, to the west by the Airport maintenance facility access road, to the north by taxiway F, and to the south by various tenant leaseholds.
The asphalt and Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements that provide access from leaseholds and perimeter roads to Taxiways E and F are deteriorated, requiring substantial repairs. Portions of the PCC pavement in these areas were placed in the 1930s and 1940s and are in need of substantial work in order to improve the surface condition and extend the life of the pavement. The work for the Rehabilitation of the Access to Taxiways E and F, Phase II project will include asphalt pavement reconstruction, resealing joints in PCC pavements, reconstruction of portions of PCC pavement, pavement markings, and infield grading.
