TITLE

Recommendation to adopt resolution appointing Francine Kerridge as Police Oversight Director and approving a salary for the Police Oversight Director.

DISCUSSION

In November 2022, Long Beach voters approved Measure E which established an Office of Police Oversight and a Police Oversight Commission.

On April 11, 2023, the City Council approved amending the FY 23 Salary Resolution to establish the Director of Police Oversight classification and authorized funding for an executive recruiter to fill this position. Pursuant to Article XIA Section 1152, Appointment of Police Oversight Director, of the City Charter and deliberations of the City Council Closed Session on August 20 and 21, 2023, the Council considered the appointment of Francine Kerridge as Police Oversight Director.

Further, during the Closed Session on August 20, 2023, the City Council recommended a salary for the Police Oversight Director at $209,860 on an annual basis or $100.549 per hour. The Police Oversight Director, a Department Head, is also eligible for a monthly transportation allowance of $450.

The City Council must adopt a resolution in open session to appoint a Police Oversight Director and approve a salary for the incumbent. Attached for City Council consideration is a Resolution to effectuate these actions.

SUGGESTED ACTION
