TITLE
Recommendation to amend Contract No. 29910 with Danny Jones Auto Painting to increase the annual contract amount by $155,000 for a total annual contract amount of $505,000 for furnishing and delivering auto body repair services, at the discretion of the City Manager. (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to add $155,000 to the current auto body services contract with Danny Jones Auto Painting, which will expire on January 31, 2010. The Department of Public Works, Fleet Services Bureau has been working on creating new auto body services specifications that streamline current services and combine heavy duty auto body services with the current light duty auto body services contract. Currently, the Department of Financial Management, Purchasing Division is preparing the solicitation for the bid and intends to seek City Council approval for a new contract in January 2010, with an anticipated February 1, 2010 start date.

The need for additional funds is due to an increase in expenditures by the Departments of Public Works, Water and Harbor for various reasons: longer retention of vehicles, older vehicles needing more repairs and unforeseen accidents.

The original bid for auto body services PA-00807 was advertised on November 16, 2006 and 128 potential bidders specializing in auto body repair services were notified of the bid opportunity; 17 were Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), 7 were Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), 12 were certified Small Business Enterprises (SBEs) and 30 were Long Beach businesses. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located in City Hall, and the Division's website at www.longbeach.qov/purchasing. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority, and women's business groups. Bids were opened on November 16, 2006. Danny Jones Auto Painting of Long Beach, CA (WBE and local)...
