DISCUSSION
On September 6, 2005 and on May 4, 2010, the City Council approved a contract with Dadson Washer Service, Inc. (Dadson), to provide coin-operated on-site laundry facilities in Shoreline Marina and Alamitos Bay Marina. These coin-operated facilities have been available in Shoreline Marina since 1994, and in Alamitos Bay Marina since 2003. Dadson is a family-owned and operated business, founded in 1962, and has been responsible for City of Long Beach marina laundry facilities since 1994.
On August 31, 2015, Contract No. 31796 with Dadson expired with no remaining renewal options. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine has begun the Request for Proposal (RFP) process that will be completed within the first quarter of 2016, with a proposed contract coming before the City Council immediately thereafter. In order to continue service for our marina patrons until a new contract is in place, City Council approval is requested to enter into a new contract with the current vendor to continue to install, maintain, and service coin-operated laundry equipment in Shoreline Marina and Alamitos Bay Marina through April 30, 2016.
This matter was reviewed by Principal Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on October 5, 2015, and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on October 7, 2015.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on October 20, 2015, in order to enable the execution of a new contract, and avoid a disruption of marina laundry facility services.
FISCAL IMPACT
Estimated revenue in the amount of $5,000 per year will continue to be deposited in the Marina Fund (TF 403) in the Parks, Recreation ...
