Recommendation to authorize City Manager to accept funds that are to be used solely for the purpose of promoting the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities Program's goals and objectives from Research and Development Solutions, LLC in the amount of $10,000 and to execute the conditional agreement. DISCUSSION
The U. S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Clean Cities Program is a voluntary, locallybased government and industry partnership to mobilize stakeholders in an effort to expand the use of alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel, accelerate the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and build a local AFV refueling infrastructure.
On August 31, 1994, the City of Long Beach entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the DOE. The City committed to voluntarily work together toward achieving the Clean Cities Program's goals and objectives of utilizing energy sources in the American transportation sector that are more efficient, less dependent on foreign sources, less environmentally disruptive, sustainable, and safe.
The Clean Cities Program works directly with local businesses and governments to shepherd them into goal setting, coalition building, and a commitment process necessary to establish the foundation for a viable alternative fuels market. Clean Cities networking, along with providing continuous feedback to industry and government stakeholders, can continually pioneer innovations and aspire to effect national and local achievements in this endeavor.
The DOE, Clean Cities Program in concert with Research and Development Solutions, LLC, has allocated funding in the amount of $10,000 to every active coalition to aid them in their efforts to promote the vision of cleaner air, purchase AFVs, reduce air pollution for a healthier environment, and decrease its dependence on foreign oil.
