Westminster for the use of the Westminster Police Range and Safety Training Center, in an annual amount not to exceed $63,000, beginning on January 1, 2018, for a period of one-year, with the option to renew for one additional one-year period, at the discretion of the City Manager. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) to enter into an agreement with the City of Westminster for the use of the Westminster Police Range and Safety Training Center (Training Center).
On May 9, 2017, the City Council awarded a contract with the City of Westminster for use of the Training Center through December 31, 2017, because the LBPD Pistol Range was under construction and not available for practice or firearms qualifications. At the time of the contract execution, the anticipated date of project completion was December 2017. The use of the Training Center will allow armed City employees, under the supervision of LBPD Pistol Range staff, to practice and maintain compliance with LBPD qualification standards. Upon completion of construction, the LBPD Pistol Range will be reopened and available for all firearms training. The new contract will begin on January 1, 2018 for a term of one year, with an option to renew for one additional one-year period.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on November 2, 2017 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on November 6, 2017.
