TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $10,000 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Andrew Karger & Selena Corning v. City of Long Beach, Case No. 07C05030; and $190,000 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled David Willingham, et al. v. City of Long Beach, et al., Case No. CV02-03473 GAF.
DISCUSSION
On January 29,2007, an unmarked police vehicle and a vehicle containing Plaintiffs collided on the freeway. As a result of the accident, Plaintiffs incurred medical and property damage.
After court-ordered mediation, the parties were able to reach a tentative global settlement of $10,000.00, subject to City Council approval.
The Economic Development and Finance Committee approved the proposed settlement on November 11, 2008.
AND
On May 1,2001, Demonstrators failed to disperse, and police eventually fired less-lethal projectiles at the demonstrators. After extensive discussion, a tentative settlement of $190,000.00 was reached.
