TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to amend Contract No. 33907 with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles to provide supplemental law enforcement services for the Carmelitos Housing Development, to increase the annual amount by $46,500, for a revised estimated annual reimbursement amount of $406,500, for the term commencing on July 1, 2017; the estimated reimbursement amount will be adjusted annually on July 1, during the remaining renewal terms of the contract for cost increases; and
Increase appropriations in the General Fund (GF) in the Police Department (PD) by $52,611. (District 8)
DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has contracted with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles for supplemental law enforcement services at the Carmelitos Housing Development in North Long Beach since 1985.
On June 2, 2015, the City Council authorized the City Manager to enter in a new contract with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles, in an amount not to exceed $360,000, for an initial period of 12 months, beginning on July 1, 2015, with four one-year extension options. This contract provides services by LBPD personnel such as community policing, investigations and intervention. The cost of services reimbursed under this agreement will exceed the annual contract amount of $360,000 due to increases in salaries and benefits for LBPD personnel.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on June 20, 2017, to ensure the contract is in place expeditiously.
FISCAL IMPACT
