DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has contracted with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles for supplemental law enforcement services at the Carmelitos Housing Development in North Long Beach since 1985.

On June 2, 2015, the City Council authorized the City Manager to enter in a new contract with the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles, in an amount not to exceed $360,000, for an initial period of 12 months, beginning on July 1, 2015, with four one-year extension options. This contract provides services by LBPD personnel such as community policing, investigations and intervention. The cost of services reimbursed under this agreement will exceed the annual contract amount of $360,000 due to increases in salaries and benefits for LBPD personnel.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on May 30, 2017 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on May 31, 2017.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on June 20, 2017, to ensure the contract is in place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT
The increase to this contract is unbudgeted. Therefore, an appropriation increase in the General Fund (GF) in the Police Department (PD) in the amount of $52,611 is requested and will bring the total appropriation amount to $406,500. The expense associated with...
