TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,500, offset by First Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department for the 2021 HOPE Latina Empowerment Day; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Hispanas Organized for Political Equality or HOPE has been a wonderful partner in our shared mission of uplifting our Latina community through education, advocacy, and opportunity. Every year HOPE organizes a great networking opportunity to help connect Long Beach leaders and this year, although virtual, is no different.
HOPE is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has focused on empowering our communities through advocacy, Latina leadership training, and increasing knowledge on the contributions Latinas have made to advance the status of women for the past 30 years. To date, HOPE’s innovative programming has served 56,000 Latinas statewide and touched the lives of several thousand more.
The 2021 HOPE Latina Empowerment Day Long Beach is another great event worthy of recognition and support, especially during this difficult time.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on February 10, 2021.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
The Latina Empowerment Day Long Beach will be held February 17, 2021.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funding for the 2021 HOPE Latina Empowerment Day Long Beach. The total appropriation increase of $1,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department is offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is expected to have minimal impact on staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council Priorities.
