TITLE
Recommendation to approve the use of the Seventh Council District's one-time infrastructure funds transferred from the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Public Works Department (PW) into the Legislative Department (LD) operating budget in the amount of $10,000 to support these beautification projects; and
Increase appropriation in the General Fund (GF) in the Legislative Department (LD) by $10,000.
DISCUSSION
The California Heights Neighborhood Association (CHNA) is a nonprofit organization working to promote public knowledge and preservation of historic and architectural resources in the California Heights Historic District. Their organization works diligently on community enhancement projects including collaborations with the City of Long Beach on the Historic Lamppost Beautification project; the creation of the California Heights Mural and the weekly cleanups by the California Heights Clean Streets Volunteer Team.
The Seventh Council District will be partnering with the California Heights Neighborhood Association (CHNA) on a community mural near the corner of Orange Avenue and Bixby Road and providing funding in the amount of $10,000 from the District's one-time infrastructure funds. These funds will be used to support the creation of a new mural, which is designed by Emily Kiwa Tanaka, a local artist from Long Beach. The mural design has a tribute to each of the main streets throughout the California Heights Historic District, with a youth friendly element. The California Heights Neighborhood Association will also be collaborating with the Long Beach Unified School District to bring students to the mural site, which will further contribute to the City of Long Beach's commitment to the Arts.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total appropriation increase of $10,000 in the Legislative Department (LD) budget is offset by a transfer of one-time infrastructure funds to the General Fund from the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Public Works Department (PW).
