Airport Advisory Commission Appointment
Rita Nayak (CD 8) - Interim Term through June 2018
Rita Nayak grew up in Long Beach, graduated from Poly High School, and is now a homeowner in the 8th District, where she has been involved in community outreach regarding the Long Beach airport. She hopes to promote a better quality of life for Long Beach residents through her work as a commissioner. By trade, Rita studied architecture and landscape design and works as a freelance designer on residential projects.
Cultural Heritage Commission Appointment
Tasha Hunter (CD 8) - Interim Term through June 2018 (to fill Shannon Carmack's expired term)
Tasha Hunter lives in CD 8 and has long been active in the community, as an educator, filmmaker, event planner and youth advocate. Over the past two decades, she has worked specifically to promote art and cultural exchanges. Currently, she is Executive Director of the Uptown Business Improvement District and is involved in a number of committees and organizations devoted to supporting engagement with the arts.
Economic Development Commission Appointment
Jacob Flores (CD 2)-Interim Term through June 2018
A Long Beach native and CD 2 resident, Jacob Flores is actively engaged in the technology industry and is a proponent of technological innovation as a means to create an inclusive economy. He is excited to help make Long Beach more equitable by providing new opportunities for the community through access to technology. Jacob is a Technology Senior Analyst with Accenture and holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from USC.
Homeless Services Advisory Committee Appointment
James Howat (CD 8) - CD 8 Seat - Interim Term through June 2018 (to fill vacancy left by Andy Kerr's resignation)
James Howat has lived in the Long Beach area since 1956 and is currently a resident in the 8th District. He has worked for many years to provide services for individuals and families
experiencing homelessness. In various capacities with the Volunteers of America, James developed a hotline for homeless youth, oversaw the delivery of health programs and managed a cold weather shelter.
Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Board Appointment
Susan Crockett-Interim Term through June 2018
Susan Crockett is the Director of Clinical Workforce Development at MemorialCare in Long Beach. In her role, she has worked with Pacific Gateway for more than nine years to develop workforce programs to help employ residents. She is excited about the opportunity to be more involved in trainings that assist individuals in reaching their full employment potential,
especially in the healthcare field.
