Airport Advisory Commission
New Appointments

 

Phil Ramsdale (CD 3) -to fill Elizabeth Cruz's Expired Term; Interim Term through June 2018

 

Phil Ramsdale is a CSULB graduate and has been in the transportation industry throughout his career. In 1987, he founded Transport Solutions LLC, a company that specializes in freight consulting and management. He is a past president and current treasurer of the Southern California Roundtable for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, among other boards.

 

Alvaro Castillo (CD 5) - transfer from Citizen Police Complaint Commission to fill Gerald Mineghino's Expired Term; Interim Term through June 2018

 

Alvaro Castillo served on the Community Development Commission from 2001-2007, where he contributed to ongoing improvements in the city. He has also volunteered for a number of nonprofit organizations in Long Beach. Currently a member of the Citizen Police Complaint Commission, Alvaro would like to transfer to the Airport Advisory Commission.

Lydia Vaias (CD 2) - Physician - to fill Mel Marks' Expired Term; Interim Term through June 2018

 

Dr. Lydia Vaias is a physician for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. In addition to her medical degree, she received a Master's degree in Public Health from UCLA and has proven leadership and policy experience in the health sector. She is excited to help the City of Long Beach provide human services for our community.

 

Sylvia Betancourt (CD 3) - At-Large - to fill Vacancy left by Gisele Fong; Interim Term through June 2018

 

Sylvia Betancourt is a Project Supervisor for the Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma. An active Long Beach resident committed to community health and the environment, she has more than twenty years of experience as both a volunteer and a professional devoted to environmental health and social justice.

 

Cultural Heritage Commission
New Appointment

 

Kathleen Irvine (CD 1) - transfer from Sustainable City Commission to fill Louise Ivers' Expired Term; First Term through June 2019

 

Kathleen Irvine is the owner of Blue Gecko Design and has been an active member of the Willmore City Heritage Association for the past ten years. She has also worked closely on issues related to sustainability, environmental technology, and green gardening. Currently on the Sustainable City Commission, Kathleen would like to transfer to the Cultural Heritage Commission.

Susana Sngiem (CD 4) - Interim Term through June 2018

 

Susana Sngiem is a proud native Long Beach resident and representative of the Cambodian community. She is a Cambodian-American born from Khmer Rouge refugees and serves the community by volunteering with her local church and neighborhood groups. Susana is currently the executive director of the United Cambodian Community.

 

Senior Citizen Advisory Commission
New Appointment

 

Naida Tushnet (CD 3) - Interim Term through June 2018

 

Dr. Naida Tushnet has been a Long Beach resident since 1990 and has been active in leadership roles in numerous community organizations. Naida received her Doctorate in Educational Policymaking and Administration and has more than fifty years of experience in education, most recently as a lecturer and Acting President of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSULB.

 

Sustainable City Commission
New Appointment

 

Eric Rock (CD 2) - At-Large - Interim Term through June 2018

 

A member of the Community Emergency Response Team in Signal Hill and a teacher at Greendot Public Schools, Eric Rock is active in providing community services throughout the region. He believes sustainability is the best way to protect our ever-growing population and is excited about the opportunity to serve all of Long Beach in this capacity.

 

Veterans Affairs Commission
New Appointment

 

Ricky Fernandez (CD 5) - Interim Term through June 2018

 

As a former United States Marine, Ricky Fernandez takes great pride in helping his fellow service members. Shortly following his active service, he found ways to support individuals facing difficulties readjusting to civilian life. Ricky is dedicated to assisting veterans obtain their benefits from the V A and would like to reach more veterans in need through the commission.
