TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents, including any subsequent amendments extending the grant term or changing the amount of the award, with Marathon Petroleum Foundation, Inc., Community Investment Grant Program, to accept and expend grant funding up to $14,000 from the Emergency Official Grant Program funds for the Health and Wellness Program for the period of January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund Group in the Fire Department by $14,000, offset by grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to accept and expend the Emergency Official Grant Program funds through the Marathon Community Investment Programs awarded by the Marathon Petroleum Foundation, Inc. (Marathon), in the amount of $14,000.
The Marathon Community Investment Programs supports non-profits and government-related organizations and agencies on three core areas: workforce development, sustainability, and thriving communities where it can make a positive, measurable impact to the community.
The Long Beach Fire Department received funding for $14,000 for the Health and Wellness Program to promote the health and wellness of our first responders. The grant funds will be equally distributed in the amount of $3,500 to Fire Stations 12, 13, 15, and 20 for the purpose of funding new and replacement of aging gym equipment. In acceptance of the grant award, Long Beach Fire Department can support the mental and physical health and wellness for our first responders.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Arturo D. Sanchez on September 8, 2023 and by Budget Development Officer Jennifer Rodriguez on September 14, 2023.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on October 3, 2023, to ensure the City can expend grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City of Long Beach will receive grant funding up to $14,000 for the period of January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. An appropriation increase is requested in the amount of $14,000 in the General Grants Fund Group in the Fire Department, offset by grant revenue. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. No match or in-kind service is required. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
