TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an agreement, and all necessary amendments, between the City of Long Beach and the State of California Department of Public Health to provide Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention and Control Program services in the amount of $42,298 for the period of July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
STD) awareness and prevention program incorporating information, education services, awareness, outreach and referrals to STD screening and treatment services, with a special emphasis on individuals at high-risk for contracting and transmitting STDs. This program is called the STD Community Intervention Program (SCIP).
This new agreement from the State of California will provide $42,298 of State funds to the City of Long Beach to continue running SCIP for two additional years, July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2013. The Health Department will coordinate trainings for local agencies, provide a variety of educational resources, utilize networking opportunities through community forums, individual meetings and coalitions, as well as provide direct patient services aimed at STD prevention and awareness.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Trang on July 18, 2011 and by Budget and Performance Management Officer Victoria Bell on July 22, 2011.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on August 9, 2011, in order to allow reimbursement for activities funded by this project, which commenced on July 1, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total amount of the agreement is $42,298 for the two-year period of July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013. Sufficient funds are currently budgeted in the Health Fund (SR 130) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HE). There is no City match of funds required, no impact to the General Fund and no net impact to jobs associated with this action.
