TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500, offset by the Third Council District One-Time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation of $500 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving to support 2023 Walk Like MADD SoCal in Memory of Christopher Jesus Castillo; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The 2023 Walk Like MADD SoCal in Memory of Christopher Jesus Castillo is Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s signature event to help raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. This event took place on September 16th at Granada Beach in District 3.
Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. MADD also supports drunk driving victims and survivors - serving one person every eight minutes - at no charge.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to Mothers Against Drunk Driving to support the 2023 Walk Like MADD SoCal in Memory of Christopher Jesus Castillo. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.
