TITLE

Recommendation to adopt Specifications No. ITB PW 16-150 and award contracts to Econolite Control Products, Inc., of Anaheim, CA, and JTB Supply Company, Inc., of Orange, CA, for furnishing and delivering traffic signal equipment on an as-needed basis, in an annual aggregate amount not to exceed $300,000, for a period of two years, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, at the discretion of the City Manager.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested to enter into contracts with Econolite Control Products, Inc., and JTB Supply Company, Inc., for the as-needed purchase of traffic signal equipment for the Department of Public Works.  The traffic signal equipment to be furnished under this contract, which includes signal housing, signal mounts, and pole fittings and hardware, is compatible with existing equipment and standard traffic equipment modules.  This contract allows for continued support for ongoing traffic signal maintenance and upgrades throughout the City.

Staff is requesting the ability to work with both companies because each supplies different, unique equipment.  The two contracts will allow staff the ability to receive supplies on a timely basis and remain cost competitive by selecting the vendor with the lower unit price for items that both supply.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action to adopt Specifications No. ITB PW 16-150 and award contracts concurrently is requested on October 4, 2016, to ensure that contracts are in place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT

The total annual aggregate amount will not exceed $300,000, and is budgeted in the General Fund (GF) in the Public Works Department (PW). The award of these contracts will provide continued support to our local economy by assisting in the preservation of employment for four full-time employees residing in Long Beach.
