TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,850, offset by Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to support the following:

 

                     1) The Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center, in the

                         amount of $400, in support of the Annual Red Kettle

                         Christmas Dinner;

                     2) Belmont Shore Business Association, in the amount

                         of $450, in support of the Belmont Shore Christmas

                         Parade;

                     3) United Cambodian Community, in the amount

DISCUSSION

The Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center is hosting their Annual Red Kettle Christmas Dinner on December 1, 2022, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. All proceeds from the fundraising dinner will go towards the Red Shield Marketplace food bank and social services to help with Christmas needs and needs for low-income and no-income individuals and families in Long Beach throughout the year.

 

The Belmont Shore Christmas Parade is returning this year on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The parade route is along East Second Street, beginning on Livingston Avenue and heading east towards Bayshore Avenue. The Christmas Parade is one of the biggest parades of the year in Long Beach and one of the largest Christmas parades in the region. Families line up along 2nd Street for a seat or best viewing of the night-time event that includes Santa Claus, plenty of elves, and colorful bands, costumes, floats and surprises.

 

The United Cambodian Community of Long Beach in partnership with the Maye Center is hosting the quarterly Night Marklet in Cambodia Town on Saturday, December 17, 2022. The night market features a variety of local vendors including arts and craft, fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and Texas Cambodian BBQ. Contributions will go towards supporting the community event.

No Financial Management review was able to be conducted due to the urgency and time sensitivity of this item.
