DISCUSSION

Founded by Chan Hopson, Khmer Parent Association is a community-based organization whose mission is to produce tomorrow’s leaders of today’s Khmer youth through higher education by providing tutoring, leadership development, scholarships, and health education to youth, women, and families. This year’s conference was hosted virtually on Saturday, February 19.

Since its inception in 2016, Khmer Parent Association’s Mother and Daughters Conference provides a great opportunity for families to build, develop, and strengthen relationships across cultures, as well as creating friendly dialogue and sharing experiences as one community. This year’s conference goal was to empower mothers and daughters with the knowledge and skills to prevent inter-generational gaps and conflicts.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation provides One-time District Priority Funds to support the Khmer Parent Association’s 7th Annual Mother and Daughters Conference. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the City Manager Department will be offset by Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
