DISCUSSION

Councilwoman Megan Kerr would like to support the following events and community programing:

Historical Society of Long Beach in support of the 27th Annual Cemetery Tour at the Sunnyside and Municipal Cemetries on Saturday, October 28, 2023. This annual event educates the community on the history of Long Beach and its residents.

In conjunction with the California Heights Neighborhood, the Long Beach Ballet will host a free Neighborhood Holiday Tree Lighting on Thursday, November 30, 2023; in California Heights. This event is an inaugural event with grand festivities to include: holiday shopping, holiday treats, kids and Family activities, musical performances, booths from our local businesses and activities for the neighborhood children.

Long Beach BLAST (Better Learning for All Students Together) in support of the Hallo’Wine Blast on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. This annual event supports the organization’s mission to improve academic and personal success for Long Beach youth through collaboration and innovative approaches to mentoring and learning.

The Fix Project (dba Fix Long Beach) in support of the Howl-O-Ween Gala on Saturday, October 14, 2023. This event supports the organization’s mission to reduce unwanted cats and dogs from ending up in shelters by offering free spay and neuter services to individuals that could not otherwise afford these services, as well as provide low-cost vaccinations, medications, and microchips.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on September 29, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $2,500 to the Historical Society of Long Beach, $1,500 to Long Beach Ballet, $1,000 to Long Beach BLAST, and $500 to the The Fix Project, in support of the event as written above. The total appropriation increase of $5,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Fifth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to have a minimal impact on staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.  There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

MEGAN KERR, COUNCILWOMAN
