TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,000, offset by the Seventh Council District One-Time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide support for the following:

                     1.                     $500 to Goodwill SOLAC, in support of the Celebrate

                                          the Power of Work Awards Dinner 2023;

                     2.                     $1,500 to Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership to support

                                          Long Beach Gives; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,000 to offset transfers to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Councilmember Uranga would like to support Goodwill SOLAC’s Celebrate the Power of Work dinner, which further Goodwill SOLAC’s purpose of providing vocational education, work training programs and support services for people with barriers to employment.

Councilmember Uranga would also like to support Long Beach Gives, a citywide, online fundraising campaign to raise awareness and inspire community giving for Long Beach nonprofits. In 2022, individuals and businesses donated $1.96 million to support the work of 232 participating nonprofits.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on September 13, 2023.

STATEMENT OF URGENCY:

This item requires urgency to allow a timely transfer of funds.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $500 to Goodwill SOLAC in support of the Celebrate the Power of Work Awards Dinner 2023 and $1,500 to Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership to support Long Beach Gives. The total appropriation increase of $2,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Seventh Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

ROBERTO URANGA COUNCILMEMBER,

SEVENTH DISTRICT
