TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $3,000 offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide contributions of:
● $500 to California Families in Focus to support the 3rd Annual Trans Pride Parade Long Beach Festival 2023 on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Long Beach Recreation Park;
● $2,500 to the Long Beach Pride Inc. to support the 40th Annual Long Beach Pride Festival & Parade celebration from Friday, August 4, 2023 to Sunday, August 6, 2023; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $3,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
On Saturday, July 29, 2023 Trans Pride Long Beach and California Families in Focus will present the Third Annual Trans Pride Long Beach Festival from 1 pm - 7 pm at Long Beach Recreation Park, 4900 E 7th St, Long Beach, CA 90804. Trans Pride Long Beach is a one-day event to highlight, empower, inspire and normalize our vibrant Trans and Nonbinary community, and to show strength in unity with Trans folks and our allies. The event serves to provide accessibility, visibility, and equity for the transgender and non-binary community. This platform advocates for equality, visibility, and the celebration of diverse experiences of transgender individuals.
From Friday, August 4, 2023 to Sunday, August 6, 2023, Long Beach Pride Inc. will present the 40th Annual Long Beach Pride Festival & Parade, firmly established as one of the City’s most anticipated and popular events. The event will include live music by headline artists and local favorites, three stages, food and drink, 150+ arts/crafts vendors, DJ’s and dancing, drag shows, parade, sponsored presence, games, giveaways, and more. The free parade takes place Sunday, August 6 at 10:30 am, beginning at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard & Lindero Avenue, proceeding west towards Alamitos Avenue.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funds to California Families in Focus to support the 3rd Annual Trans Pride Parade Long Beach Festival 2023 and to the Long Beach Pride Inc. to support the 40th Annual Long Beach Pride Festival & Parade celebration. The total appropriation increase of $3,000 in the City Manager Department will be offset by Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
