TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $87, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to transfer funds to Parks, Recreation, and Marine to provide a reimbursement to Michelle Arend-Ekhoff for the Craftsman Village Historic District National Night Out 2023; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $87, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Since 1984, communities across the United States of America have gathered to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while building a sense of community. Neighborhoods across the nation host events such as block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and many other community events. These events have grown the relationships between members of the community and police for years and continue to be wonderful events for communities across the nation.

On August 1st, 2023, the Craftsman Village Historic District will host a National Night Out event at Craftsman Village Park, in which community members will be able to meet with Long Beach Police Officers to build a stronger relationship. Residents will have the opportunity to talk to local officers, eat food, watch a movie, and enjoy Craftsman Village Park with their neighbors. This event was made possible by the work of Michelle Arend-Ekhoff who was the official permittee with Long Beach Parks, Recreation, and Marine, and purchased the liability policy for the event on behalf of the Craftsman Village Historic District. The $87 will go to reimburse Michelle Arend-Ekhoff for her costs which were $87 to insure the event. It is appropriate for the City Council to support a funds transfer to Parks, Recreation, and Marine to reimburse Michelle Arend-Ekhoff for the Craftsman Village Historic District National Night Out 2023.

STATEMENT OF URGENCY:

This item requires urgency so as to allow a timely transfer of funds.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to transfer funds to Parks, Recreation, and Marine to provide a reimbursement to Michelle Arend-Ekhoff for the Craftsman Village Historic District National Night Out 2023. The total appropriation increase of $87 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION
