TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,000, offset by the Fifth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to:
• $1,500 to Long Beach City College Foundation in
support of the Long Beach City College (LBCC)
Hall of Fame Celebration;
• $1,000 to Long Beach Camerata Singers in support
of the Opening Night Gala and the EnviroArts Fair;
• $2,500 to WomenShelter of Long Beach in support
of the 2023 Leading with Love Gala; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $5,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Councilwoman Megan Kerr would like to support the following events and community programing:
• The Long Beach City College Hall of Fame Celebration that was held on September 7, 2023. This event honors community leaders for their outstanding contributions to LBCC and the Long Beach Community.
• The Long Beach Camerata Singers Opening Night Gala on September 21, 2023, and the EnviroArts Fair on October 8, 2023. Both events support the non-profit organization whose mission to provide excellence in choral music for the community.
• The 2023 Leading with Love Gala scheduled for October 8, 2023. This event raises funds for the WomenShelter of Long Beach, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating domestic violence among many other counseling, education, and support services in Long Beach for the past 4 decades.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on August 31, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $1,500 to the Long Beach City College Foundation, $1,000 to Long Beach Camerata Singers, $2,500 to WomenShelter of Long Beach, in support of the event as written above. The total appropriation increase of $5,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Fifth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
