TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,000, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donation of:
1. $1,000 to Long Beach Public Library Foundation to support the
20th Annual Grape Expectations on October 1, 2023; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,000, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation, established in 1996, is dedicated to enriching the Long Beach Public Libraries and promoting literacy and education throughout the community. Their ongoing mission is to provide vital support that empowers members of all ages and backgrounds.
The Library Foundation offers programs and resources that encompass diverse aspects of community education. Their Family Learning Center Program provides support like homework help and job search assistance. The Makerspace Studios offer technology education, including 3D printing and coding. The Foundation also promotes literacy with a variety of books and resources, while collaborating with schools for impactful initiatives like educational workshops and scholarships. Through their multifaceted approach, the Long Beach Library Foundation remains dedicated to enhancing community learning and engagement.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $1,000 to Long Beach Library Foundation to support their causes as written above.
The appropriation increase of $1,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
