Airport Advisory Commission New Appointment

 

Katherine Larson (CD 3) - At-Large seat - Interim Term through June 2020 (to fill vacancy left by Roland Scott)

 

Katherine Larson is a realtor associated with Keller Williams Pacific Estates. She has worked for United Airlines for more than 25 years. Her work at United Airlines included the Airport Operations Division where she supervised more than 25 flights a day and was responsible for the safety of the employees. Katherine currently serves on the Board of Directors for Young Horizons, is a We Love Long Beach Block Connector, and is a Community Watch organizer.

 

Dr. Miles Nevin (CD 4) - At-Large seat - Interim Term through June 2020 (to fill vacancy left by Phil Ramsdale)

 

Miles is an educator, and was recently appointed as the Executive Director, Associated Students, Inc. California State University, Long Beach. Miles has been a member of the College Promise Campaign Leadership Committee in Washington, DC, Executive Committee Member of Long Beach City College Foundation, and has been a Commissioner, Citizens' Tax Oversight Committee. Miles holds an Ed.D., Educational Leadership from California State University, Long Beach.

Steven Gerdes (CD 5) - At-Large seat - First Term through June 2021

 

Steven is a District 5 resident, and is a Marketing Representative with SMART, Local 105. In his current role, he is responsible for labor compliance, representation of the union at various pre-job meetings, civic functions, and special events. In addition, Steven has been a Key Air Conditioning Contractor with AT&T. He is also former President of the Los Angeles Historical Theater Foundation.

 

Economic Development Commission New Appointment

 

Milton Duena (CD 3) - Interim Term through June 2020 (to fill vacancy left by Bobby Olvera)

 

Milton Duena is a Third District resident and is passionate about advocating for the rights of working people and making a real difference for their families and communities. Milton is currently a Business Representative with the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, District 947. He directed the Blue-Ribbon Commission internal organizing campaign at Long Beach adding 560 new members that brought in over $300,000 and organized the Immigrant Defenders Law Center to voluntarily recognize their 41 workers. Also, Milton is a Los Angeles & Orange Counties Federations of Labor Coalition of Political Education (COPE) Delegate, and he is a Los Angeles Federation of Labor Civic Leadership Graduate.

 

Homeless Services Advisory Committee New Appointment

 

Jolene Hui, (CD 7) - Interim Term through June 2020 (to fill vacancy left by Sandy Giraldo)

 

Jolene is a licensed clinical social worker and has called Long Beach home for the past 4 years. She completed her clinical hours for her LCSW for Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health where she served as a case manager and therapist in the downtown Los Angeles men's jails as well as an outpatient community health clinic in west Los Angeles. Jolene is an Advisory Board Member, California State University, Northridge Master of Social Work Program, and she has been the CA Region H Assistant Regional Director for the National Association of Social Workers.

 

Marine Advisory Commission New Appointment

 

Jo Murray (CD 3) - First Term through June 2021

 

Jo Murray is retired from a productive 30-year career in quality engineering. Her career history includes project management at Boeing and consulting for Raytheon and Hill International. Since February of2013 she has been on the "On the Water" columnist- Long Beach Gazette Newspapers. She is a Board Member, Salvation Army Long Beach Area Boy Scouts, Aquatic Capital of America Foundation, and is a honorary member of the Long Beach, Alamitos Bay, Seal Beach, and Long Beach Marina Yacht Clubs.

 

Pacific Gateway Workforce Development Board New Appointment

 

Janet Kornblatt- First Term through June 2021

 

Janet Korblatt is an accomplished general counsel with an exemplary history of leadership across all functions within the rapidly evolving healthcare industry. She is currently working as General Counsel/Corporate Secretary of SCAN Health Plan. She oversees the executive management team of one of the nation's largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, serving more than 200,000 members in California, and she serves as a key lawyer/legal advisor on all major business transactions.

 

Veterans Affairs Commission New Appointment

 

Jesse Blanco (CD1) - Interim Term through June 2020 (to fill vacancy left by Kiniko Willingham)

 

Jesse Blanco is a First District resident and a United States Navy Veteran. He worked for Coastline Community College as a Veteran Resource Representative. As a Veteran Representative, he energetically recruited potential students from the armed forces, leading to 4 - 8 additional enrollments per week, and he collaborated with more than ten managers and executives to provide feedback and recommendations on behalf of students. Jesse has received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for managing a Noise Reduction Program and for the USS Springfield sonar system.
