TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,000, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donations of:
1. $500 to DemoChicks to support the 4-Year Anniversary
Breaking Barriers Award Ceremony;
2. $500 to the Long Beach Century Club to support the Long
Beach Mayor’s Trophy Charity Golf Tournament; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,000, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
DemoChicks is a 501©(3) nonprofit corporations founded in 2019. The mission of DemoChicks is to, “elevate, empower, and inspire girls” by introducing them to non-traditional careers such as construction, architecture, and STEM, and providing experiences, motivation, and support that foster life-long education and opportunity. The DemoChicks provides opportunities for hands-on application of scientific principles, engagement of students through virtual programming, youth leadership development, scholarships, and mentoring. This donation with support the mission and the amazing work of the organization.
Started by Mayor Bob Foster to support various charitable organizations, the Long Beach Century Club’s Annual Long Beach Mayor’s Trophy Charity Golf Tournament assists in raising funds to provide scholarships for local students. This donation will support the Long Beach Century Club’s efforts in raising funds for deserving students.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $500 to the DemoChicks and $500 to the Long Beach Century Club to support their causes as written above. The appropriation increase of $1,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
