TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,500, offset by the Seventh Council District One-Time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide support for the following:
1. $500 to Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), in
support of Latina Empowerment Day on October 6, 2023;
2. $500 to Centro CHA, in support of Imagen Nuestra on
October 13, 2023;
3. $500 to Filipino Migrant Center in support of Kwento Natin on
October 14, 2023; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,500 to offset transfers to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Councilmember Uranga would like to support the following community events:
HOPE’s Latina Empowerment Days are one-day intensive workshops created to empower Latinas to increase their community impact and strengthen their skills and knowledge on community leadership, advocacy strategies, educational growth, healthcare, and financial empowerment.
Imagen Nuestra supports Centro CHA’s nonprofit organization and furthers their mission to improve the quality of life for youth, children and families living in disinvested communities through higher education, socio-economic development program opportunities, health and safety outreach and education, and Immigration legal services.
Kwento Natin supports the Filipino Migrant Center’s services and programs, including their new Emergency Services Fund established for community members with immediate needs such as victims of domestic violence or anti-Asian hate crimes, or those in need of immediate support with food or shelter.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on October 9, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $500 to HOPE, $500 to Centro CHA, and $500 to Filipino Migrant Center, in support of the events listed above. The total appropriation increase of $1,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Seventh Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
ROBERTO URANGA COUNCILMEMBER,
SEVENTH DISTRICT
